Man Bahadur Thapa is a professionally active cameraman and visual editor. Born in Diktel of Khotang District, Man Bahadur got training in indoor and outdoor photography in 1978 and video production in 1990 AD. He continued his career in cinematography and editing after a video editing course of three months in 2000.
During his service in Nepal Army, he worked in Audio-Visual Department for thirteen years. During his work at the department, he edited different programs like documentaries, docu-dramas and tele-films. He documented and edited events related to rescue works during natural disasters and VVIP and VIP. He also shot and edited the famous tele-film of the Nepal Army ‘Mato le Magdaina, Aafai Dinnu Parxa’. He had given training in Camera, Visual Editing and Media Production to many people by using his skill widely even after his retirement in Nepal Army.
“During my work at the Nepal Army, it was my responsibility to capture photos and videos of VVIPs’ and VIPs’ visits.” Says retired Man Bandur, “I have shared my skill and knowledge by training many people in many places on the subject of media production and audio visual.” He added
He edited and worked on the graphics of one hundred and twenty episodes long weekly video magazine named ‘Hamro Jilla, Hamro Nagar’ broadcasted through Nepal Television.
Having experience of shooting many advertisements, Thapa also edited and crafted the graphics of the seventy-two episodes long television program called ‘Hami ra Hamro Sambhidhaan’ for National Television. He is busy with the editing of documentary film ‘B.P ko Rajdroha’ now.
Having worked on more than hundred documentaries, docu-drams, tele-films and serials as editor, cinematographer and graphics, Man Bahadur has also worked in feature films.
As an editor of feature film ‘Krodha’ and documentary film ‘Sunshine’ directed by Aakash Adhikari, Man Bahadur co-edited a tele-film titled ‘Jiban Raksya’, on the issue of community health which was directed by Sabir Shrestha.
Similarly, he also edited the “Panchayat Ko Ghau Jarsab Ko Aparadh” directed by Lawa Pyakurel and “Devasari” and “Santan” directed by Pukar Bhattarai and many more fiction and non-fictions films and tele-films. Thapa bagged the award of Best Editor from the documentaries ‘Katha Nala Pani Ko’, and “Aviation Museum Kathmandu”. He also won the title of Best Cinematographer from the docu-drama “ Feeling of Drops” at the New York International Independent Film and Video Festival in 2006.
After receiving many national and international awards and honors for editor and cinematographer documenting and editing documentaries, short films, docu-drama and tele-film, Man Bahadur wants to continue the same profession for the rest of his life. A retired technician from Nepal Army, Man Bahadur says that he has enough work of video editing and cinematography right now.
